It’s been a difficult year. COVID-19 and the associated lockdown have dominated our lives for most of 2020. And although we’re beginning to see signs of a return to ‘normality’ in certain aspects of our daily lives, a lot of uncertainty still remains.
That said, both individuals and businesses have adapted hugely over the last six or seven months. A lot of lessons have been learned, we’re a resilient bunch – especially in the events world and we can’t and won’t let COVID-19 ruin all of our fun this year!
Plan a COVID safe post lockdown party
At Avala, we’ve been working hard to find ways in which we can still deliver our incredible party and event catering services to those celebrating milestone birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and events – and to those who just want to throw a party!
We thought that we’d take this opportunity to tell you about the additional food hygiene and safety policies that we’ve put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. To offer you some party planning ideas, and to let you know how we’re delivering amazing ‘COVID safe’ parties and events.
Our hygiene policies
We want to assure you that Avala, as a catering business, already follows the highest standards of hygiene, above and beyond those set out by the food standards agency. In response to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic and on top of our already stringent hygiene management policy we have implemented additional measures and are also acting on government advice to minimise the risk of contracting or passing on this virus.
Our preparation, packaging and delivery procedure has been amended to keep our staff and clients safe.
Our seven steps to safer events
- Front of house teams always wear clean white gloves during food and drink service.
- Gloves are changed after each course is served.
- Front of house staff will wear facemasks upon client request.
- Our team take the utmost care to observe physical distancing guidelines, with each other and customers wherever possible.
- Our delivery team will always wear facemasks and gloves when delivering buffet or pre prepared meals.
- We provide hand sanitisers for all staff. Regular and thorough hand washing is our policy, however we consider hand sanitiser to be an important backup in case there are any difficulties in accessing hand washing facilities.
- Our chefs follow ultra-stringent hygiene regimes. This includes wearing single-use, disposable, nitrile chefs’ gloves when working on site at event locations.
Our tips for planning your COVID safe event
Although we have strict policies in place for delivering COVID safe events, we always to listen to our clients. We will work hard to implement any additional safety measures, ideas or precautions that you might ask us to take.
If you are planning a post lockdown party, safety is paramount. However, we want to ensure that you have a fantastic occasion too. We’ll do everything that we can to ensure that our COVID safe measures are as unobtrusive as possible. Below are a few of our thoughts for delivering fantastic food and an amazing event experience without compromising the safety of our clients or staff.
Formal, seated dining experiences are tricky to manage with physical distancing requirements in place. However, with careful planning they are still possible. Serving food to the table prior to your guests taking their seats, and waiting for guests to leave the table before we clear is one simple way to ensure that you and your guests can still enjoy a luxury, seated meal without compromising safety.
And if you love the idea of hosting a dinner party, but aren’t sure about safely hosting guests inside your home just yet why not consider a garden party?
Garden parties are a Great British tradition! They can be delivered in a multitude of different ways; from informal to formal, seated meals to barbecues or even buffets. The choice is yours.
Guests are able to enter and exit your property via the garden gate and there will be plenty of open space and fresh air for everyone to enjoy!
We’re totally self-sufficient too. Our team can set up a field kitchen in your outdoor space. We’ll bring all of the kit that we need, from catering tents to kitchen equipment. We won’t even need to enter your home.
We’ll set everything up before your guests arrive, so that everything is ready as soon as they walk through the door (or garden gate!).
A COVID safe barbecue is all about the outdoor space! As with our garden parties, we are completely self-sufficient. We’ll bring all of our own equipment and will set up and be ready for the moment that your guests arrive.
To ensure that your barbecue is safe, we would suggest either seated dining with food delivered to the table prior to guests taking their seats. Alternatively, having platters of food brought around and served by our front of house staff as guests mingle (carefully observing physical distancing guidelines of course). We can even provide guests with biodegradable, disposable cutlery and plate options.
Bowl food parties and events
Bowl food events are becoming increasingly popular. In fact, they are bang on trend right now! A bowl food event allows guests to mingle, socialise and interact with one another whilst enjoying great food too. They are extremely social, breaking down many of the barriers and restrictions that are usually created by more formal seated events.
Bowl food menus also work very well when it comes to creating a COVID safe event. Serving staff deliver a variety of different menu options on separate trays for guests to choose from throughout the evening. Each dish is served in an individual bowl, with individual cutlery.
You probably want to avoid the need for guests to queue for drinks at a bar. Why not ask us about drinks service options? Our staff can bring around a variety of drinks on trays for guests to select from. The concept should be familiar enough. Think drinks reception – but one that lasts all night long!
Alternatively, we could set up a drinks table, or a variety of tables for different drinks. Our Front of house team ensuring that the tables are kept well stocked throughout the event.
Food delivered – ready for you to serve
How about we prepare a luxury dining experience and deliver it directly to your door ready to be served and enjoyed by you and your guests?
This way there’s no need for our staff to be on site. You’ll only see us when we deliver the food and when we collect our equipment after the party has ended!

Client meetings: Virtual or face-to-face
Your party or event is all about you and your guests, so it’s important for us to understand you and exactly what you want to achieve.
We normally do this via a site visit, where we can have a face-to-face conversation, share ideas, menu options and imagery. We also use the site visit to assess the space that we’ll be working in so that we can ensure the best set up for you.
We’re still able to conduct site visits. We observe strict physical distancing guidelines and take the relevant health and safety precautions such as wearing face masks and gloves too. However, we are also able to conduct our site visits virtually; via telephone, Zoom, Skype or Facetime calls if you would prefer.
We can also share images online and send further details, quotes and PDF menu examples via email to minimise the need for contact.
