We were delighted to complete the line-up of a talented team of suppliers to put together a very special birthday celebration being planned by the wife and son of a man about to turn 50.
Plans were already well underway for a marquee party for 30 guests to be held in the garden of the family’s Guildford home, and the ultra-organised Lizzie of Halls & Halls would be in charge of all the logistics on the day. The party had The Greatest Showman as its theme and a formal sit-down three-course meal was to be one of the key highlights of the evening. Finding the right caterer was the biggest challenge.
Making a star of the food
Having found Avala on Instagram, they were keen to get us involved. The family are self-confessed lovers of food that looks amazing and tastes even better. We met with the client at their home and then arranged a menu tasting at our kitchens. This was also a great opportunity for the client to consider exactly how each dish would be presented, right down to selecting plates. We also worked to the client’s layout for the dessert.
With the menu agreed, we began our planning process. A number of guests had dietary requirements so for each course we created several variants to ensure every single guest would enjoy a delicious and luxurious meal. We worked closely with the client to ensure every aspect of the catering met expectations and, to tie in with the party theme and black and gold colour palette, we suggested the use of gold cutlery, gold-rimmed wine glasses and coloured water glasses. We also sourced centre pieces created with ostrich feathers that provided a great visual feature on each table.
Time to get the greatest show started
We set up our kitchen equipment a day in advance and tested that everything was in good working order. On the day, the Avala team arrived several hours early to set the tables and then it was time for the waiting staff to get into uniform – their usual smart appearance enhanced by red bowties and braces to fit in with the theme – ready to welcome guests with champagne.
As well as providing the catering, we’d liaised closely with Lizzie the event planner to make sure the party would run smoothly and Avala helped out with additional services, which included serving wine at table and presenting the birthday cake. And, as midnight drew near, we served a delicious evening buffet of bacon rolls and doner pita, which went down incredibly well.
